Starting School
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important parental decisions. Prospective parents and carers are encouraged to watch our Early Years open day video (below), read the school prospectus and arrange to join a school tour by calling 0116 2607577 or submitting a request through our online form.
Parents of children due to join Early Years in September are invited into the school for an induction meeting at the end of May. During this session, parents are given an informal ‘welcome talk’ from our Early Years Teacher as well as a chance to meet the Headteacher and ask questions.
New pupils are invited to an induction session in June as well as a 'Teddy Bear's Picnic' in July. This provides an opportunity for children to get to know staff and other new entrants. To ensure children successfully transfer into school, we invite parents and children to a 'Meet the Teacher' visit in the first few days of the autumn term and operate a phased transition when children attend part-time for the first week, either in the morning or afternoon, to allow staff and children to develop good relationships in a small class situation.
By the beginning of the second full week of term all new children attend full-time. Parents are reminded that they are always welcome in school and are encouraged to talk daily with staff, share successes and sort out any concerns. Tapestry is used to communicate with parents and share details of your child's achievements online.
